This qualification is for learners who wish to raise awareness of mental health, creating a culture of care and the promotion of positive mental health. You will learn to understand mental health, its associated care and how this can be applied to learners or colleagues in the workplace.

 

Course duration: 120 hours of study, flexible around you

(e.g. Approximately 8 weeks, based on 15 hours of study per week)

 

What topics does the qualification cover?

  • Different types of mental ill health, and factors that may increase the risk of mental ill health in individuals
  • How to support individuals with mental ill health within boundaries of own role
  • How to create a mentally healthy environment for individuals in a variety of settings

 

This course will develop your knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions and the principles of mental health first aid, and how this can be implemented in the workplace.

 

This qualification will allow progression onto further education, and into a variety of job roles and occupational areas across all sectors.

It may be especially useful to support learners already studying qualifications in the following sectors:

  • Customer service
  • Housing
  • Voluntary sector
  • Sport and recreation
  • Hospitality
  • Travel and tourism

Modules

To be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace, learners are required to pass three mandatory units:

  • Unit 1: Exploring mental health
  • Unit 2: Understand how to support individuals with mental ill health
  • Unit 3: Understand a mentally healthy environment

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirments to enrol on this course, however, learners should have a minimum of Level 1 English and Maths understanding.

Assessment

Each unit is followed by a group of assessment questions, designed to test your knowledge of the material you have been studying.

Once you have completed each unit assessment, you will submit them to your tutor for marking.

Your tutor may highlight areas where you need a little more information to ensure you fully understand each area in order to pass the unit. 

Progression

Achievement of this qualification will help support progression onto further education, and into a variety of job roles and occupational areas across all sectors.

  • Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health

  • Ensure that you have not already completed the course you wish to enrol on.
  • Must be a UK National; You must have lived in the UK for the last 3 years OR be able to prove your residency status, for example, Indefinite leave to remain, settled status or you are an Asylum seeker who has been in the UK for more than 6 months.
