NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health (RQF)

 

This qualification will focus on the study of mental health and mental well-being to support different occupational areas.

 

Course duration: 153 hours of study, flexible around you

(e.g. Approximately 10 weeks, based on 15 hours of study per week)


What topics does the qualification cover?

  • Mental health legislation, services and public attitudes and how these have evolved
  • How to support mental well-being through various stages of life
  • Mental ill health, treatment options available and the potential consequences of mental ill health
  • The skills required to work in a mental health service

 

This qualification will allow progression onto further education, and into a variety of job roles and occupational areas within health and social care, or roles in other sectors which support people with mental health problems.

Modules

To be awarded the Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health, learners are required to successfully complete five mandatory units:

  • Unit 1: Understanding the context of mental health and wellbeing
  • Unit 2: Promotion of mental health and wellbeing
  • Unit 3: Mental health problems: associated issues and consequences
  • Unit 4: Understanding mental ill health
  • Unit 5: Working in mental health

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements to enrol on this course, however, learners should have a minimum of Level 1 English and Maths understanding; and may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 2 qualification in a related subject, or qualifications in healthcare or social care contexts.

Assessment

Each unit is followed by a group of assessment questions, designed to test your knowledge of the material you have been studying.

Once you have completed each unit assessment, you will submit them to your tutor for marking.

Your tutor may highlight areas where you need a little more information to ensure you fully understand each area in order to pass the unit. 

Progression

Achievement of this qualification will help support progression onto further education, and into a variety of job roles and occupational areas within health and social care, or roles in other sectors which support people with mental health problems.

Funding Methods Available

You can get this Level 3 qualification fully funded, if you:

  • are 19 or over and do not already have a level 3 qualification
  • already have a level 3 qualification or higher but earn below the National Living Wage annually (£18,525 from April 2022)
  • already have a level 3 qualification or higher but are unemployed

In some areas, there may be a slightly different low wage threshold.

National Skills Fund

If you are aged 19 to 23, you may be eligible for AEB funding if this is your full Level 3 qualification, provided you meet the following requirements:

  • Ensure that you have not already completed the course you wish to enrol on.
  • Must be a UK National; You must have lived in the UK for the last 3 years OR be able to prove your residency status, for example, Indefinite leave to remain, settled status or you are an Asylum seeker who has been in the UK for more than 6 months.
