This qualification provides the skills and knowledge required for a solid foundation in understanding children and young people's mental health. You will learn the factors affecting mental health and a range of common conditions experienced by children and young people.

What topics does the qualification cover?
- The principles of mental health in relation to children and young people
- Understand mental health legislation and best practise
- Explore the causes of mental health
- Develop skills to work in mental health
This course will develop your knowledge and awareness facing children and young people and the impact this will have on their daily lives giving you the skills to practise good mental health and wellbeing practises.
This qualification will allow you to progress onto further education, and into a variety of job roles and occupational areas within health and social care, or roles in other sectors which support children and young people with mental health problems.
Modules
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health, learners are required to pass five mandatory units:
- Unit 1: Understand the principles of mental health concerns in the context of children and young people
- Unit 2: Legislation and best practice relating to children and young people's mental health
- Unit 3: Living with childhood mental health conditions
- Unit 4: Understand how to minimise the risk of mental health concerns in children and young people
- Unit 5: Understand causes and diagnosis of mental health concerns in children and young people
Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements to enrol on this course, however, learners should have a minimum of Level 1 English and Maths understanding.
Assessment
Each unit is followed by a group of assessment questions, designed to test your knowledge of the material you have been studying.
Once you have completed each unit assessment, you will submit them to your tutor for marking.
Your tutor may highlight areas where you need a little more information to ensure you fully understand each area in order to pass the unit.
Progression
Achievement of this qualification will help support progression onto further education, and into a variety of job roles and occupational areas within health and social care, or roles in other sectors which support children and young people with mental health problems.

- Must be aged 19 years or over.
- Ensure that you have not already completed the course you wish to enrol on.
- Must be a UK National; You must have lived in the UK for the last 3 years OR be able to prove your residency status, for example, Indefinite leave to remain, settled status or you are an Asylum seeker who has been in the UK for more than 6 months.
